Guadalupe Murals , a neighborhood in San Miguel de allende, Mexico.

San Miguel de allende is an artist town. So full of artists and Musicians. Many are expats. But, just as many are Mexicans. There is a neighborhood in San Miguel de Allende where the mural artists of Mexico come to paint large, beautiful murals on the walls of the buildings.

Walking through the streets of the Colonia Guadalupe in the “dark side” of San Miguel, you feel as if you were in a youthful, indomitable, free art center that explodes and overflows with motivation and all thanks to an initiative taken up by Graffiti World, an organization that has worked very hard not only to transform the aesthetic environment of what previously was considered a dangerous neighborhood, but to ultimately change the social fabric, and the geogaphic location into a “safe place to take a walk”.

There are tours you can take in this neighborhood to learn more about the artists and the history of the Murals. A lady named Colleen does them. Info below.

  • Walking tours every MondayThursdayFriday
    Morning – 10-12:30
    Afternoon – 2-4:30
Meet on the street in front of Via Organica
300 pesos per person, no reservations required

I am very proud of our Muros en Blanco project & I thoroughly enjoy sharing stories of the murals, artists, neighbors & how we all made it happen in 2013, when street art was still not permitted. Since then, more than 100 murals have been painted by local, national & international artists.

Your participation helps to support the Artist Residence.
See you on the street !

I never quite got around to taking her tour  however I did a tour of my own one day near the end of my 2 month stay and am so glad I did it. Would have hated to miss out on this beautiful area . Maybe next time I will take Colleen’s tour to learn more about the artists who do the murals.

It is a quite and quaint neighborhood and I just spent the day wandering about. Here are photos of some of the beautiful artwork.

There where many more murals then this.  I walked all day looking at them.

I also stopped here for lunch. Great little organic store with cafe. Lucky me, some roaming musicians stopped off to play a couple songs as well.  Via Organica is the name of the market, cafe and it is in Guadalupe .

San Diego , California . Long overdue trip.

Can not believe that it had been 30 years or maybe even more since I was in San Diego. Being a California girl even! And having numerous friends in S. D. I would say that is to long.

Well, I decided it was finally time to make the trip down there.

Beautiful weather, lovely area, and so much fun with my friends.

Went to Balboa park, Coronado island, Poway lake, La Jolla and saw the parade of lights. This is when the boats dress up with lights and the people on the boats wear costumes and they parade up the harbor. We got so busy watching the amazing sunset at Coronado  beach and then grabbing some dinner that we only saw the last part of the parade but it was fun .

Here are some photos of out and about in San Diego

Coming next  post……. Joshua Tree National park .

My summer House sitting and exploring. Washington on fire !!

I finally got my photos working on my computer after 3 visits with an Apple genius bar. Yea!!

Anyways, I can now post about the summer I had of house sitting and sight seeing. I wrote about my first house sit in Edmonds. Then onto Olympic National park for a few days.

After Olympic National park it was on to a  week long house sit in Monroe with the cute little kitty named Shift. I watched Shift for a week in a very large , nice Motor home that was parked in a lovely park along a river. This cat was a 4 month old main coon and looked like a full grown kitty. Very rambunctious fellow.  But, sweet and loving as well.

Shift

While watching Shift I did a day trip to the lovely town of Leavenworth, Washington. It is a Bavarian themed town. Very cute. Lots of flowers all over, Bavarian food, beer, wineries, shops, etc..20170729_154258fullsizeoutput_16e7

After taking care of Shift. I was In-between  house sits and had 3 and a half weeks free. I wanted to see some of the upper cascades in Washington and do some camping and hiking but due to so many fires I did not do any camping in Washington in August. it was so smokey you could not even get out of the car without ash falling all over you. I had a hard time breathing in it so I pushed right on thru what looked like a beautiful area . I decided  after a long day driving to spend the night in Colville,Washington in a hotel as I did not want to camp in the awful smoke !! They just happened to be having a weekend event called Rendevous days with music, vendors ,etc… Looked like some good music so I stayed 2 nights. It was a fun little event. But, the smoke never cleared up.

Well, Montana has been a must see for me with Glacier National park being on my bucket list of places to go. So, hoping for the best as far as clean air, I pushed on. I did however spend one night in Libby , Montana on the way and went to these beautiful waterfalls just out of Libby.  Kootenai falls and swinging bridge. The bridge is not for those who have a fear of heights! It really does swing when you are walking over it.  Beautiful river ! Libby seemed like a very quiet town but an abundance of beauty surrounds it.

Next post will be about Glacier.  In fact the next 2 or 3 posts will be about Glacier. I spent 9 days there and did several hikes, saw lots of wildlife. Beautiful place !

Launching off into a new phase of life.

So, here I am about to start wandering . I have lived in Truckee, CA. for most of the last 42 years. I am a 63 year old woman who loves an adventure.

Back in 1996 and 1997 I lived and traveled in a small RV . Loved the life. And, without cell phone or internet ! Geez, how did I ever manage?? I was a roving vendor. Selling goods at music festivals , flea markets, street fairs. etc. Fun life but then I was stricken with Breast cancer . Ughhh… Had to settle down and take care of that. Had it twice in 10 years. Now, another 10 years have passed and I am cancer free as far as I can tell.

While living in Truckee, California  I ran a cleaning business for vacation rental homes in Tahoe and Truckee for 18 years. I also  volunteered at the local shelter and had an odd assortment of animals for the last 18 years.  Have wanted to travel in an RV again but  got tied down with the business and the pets. Having lost the last of my furry babies a year ago to old age I decided to care for other people’s animals. I actually had done that on and off for some time but recently started house sitting.

My original travel plan was to get an RV again , however this house and petsitting has taken off and now I am taking off in my car which is loaded to the brim with camping gear, bike, clothes, and most likely a lot of stuff I don’t need. My first destination is Washington state where I have 3 petsits that will take me thru till Oct. With some weeks off in between sits at which time I will camp and wander.

Who knows where I will end up or the adventures I will have along the way.

Please come join me . Oh and by the way, I am fairly new to blogging so be patient with me as I figure it out !

Photos are taken at the pond which was near my house in Truckee. Loved walking there! Will miss it.
