Truckee, California.

Well, where do I start.  Truckee is my home town. I moved here when I was 20 years old from the big city of Los Angeles. Never did like city living and I always knew I would live in the mountains one day. Moved here with my friend Sandy who I met while working at Sequoia National park.

Truckee was a very small town in 1975 when we moved here. Population about 3,000. Still small but population is more around 15,000 now . With tons of tourists. Yes, Truckee is a tourist town, not far from San Francisco Bay Area. Why is it such a tourist town? Skiing, hiking, lakes, rivers, river rafting, camping, great music, especially in summer, great restaurants, arts shops, etc.. Lots to do for the outdoor type person. Lake Tahoe is 15 minutes away. It is an area of great beauty. I love it here and I also Love the feeling of community that we have in Truckee. The kind of place where you know a lot of people and people are always helping each other out.

The downfalls of living in Truckee? Cost of living is very high. I know many will say, well, so it is here as well. But, in Truckee everything is a bit more. Like gas averages around $4.00 a gallon consistently. Food cost more. Rent is high if you are lucky to find a place to rent.  The other downfall would be the massive amount of tourists we get now. And one last downfall would be the snow! It snows a lot in Truckee . Of course that would not be a downfall if you are into skiing, or boarding. In fact many people move here for the snow. And it is beautiful. nothing like fresh snow and blue skies !

I will do some more postings about Truckee but for now here are some photos of Truckee, Ca. and surrounding area.

House sitting in Truckee and Lake Tahoe for most of the summer.

It looks like I will be house sitting in Truckee and Tahoe all summer. Have a few lined up thru most of August with a few days off here and there.

This is fine with me. Truckee ,Ca. is my hometown  and I was gone all last summer house sitting in Washington and Oregon. Then I was house sitting for 2 months this winter in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. . I missed Truckee in the summer. Did not miss it so much in winter. It is one of the best places to be in summer. Beautiful weather with a lot of outdoor activities . There are  Lakes, rivers, hiking , swimming , and tons of free music in the summer.  I may do a post on just the music that goes on here and several on hiking trails in the area. Of course if you are big into skiing or boarding then it is also a great place in winter !! Winter is beautiful , however I am finding a break from the snow to be very nice !!

Truckee is a small town in the high Sierras at an elevation of 5800 with a population of around 16,000. Here is an article about Truckee being named coolest ski town. https://www.truckeesun.com/news/sports/truckee-named-no-1-coolest-ski-town-in-north-america/.

So yeah ! House sitting in Tahoe and Truckee cant be to bad. Can it !

Here are just some of the pets I take care of in Truckee and  Tahoe.

New Years ,walking the dog in Truckee, California, and some New Year reflections.

Photo Editor-20171231_145541This photo is of New Years eve day . I am currently house and pet sitting with Cody the Husky. Isn’t he pretty ?? He is sweet to. A fairly easy dog to take care of. I am here in my hometown Truckee for another 2 weeks. Then I leave for San Miguel De Allende, Mexico for a 2 month house sit. Woohoo. Looking forward to that.  Back to this photo. These are some of my dear friends in Truckee who I spent the NYEve day with . What a nice day. Walking the dogs with  lunch and a Bloody Mary after to celebrate the new year !! No better way to spend the end of the year then with friends in a beautiful location.

Some friends may wonder and think that I am looking for a new place to live. Like last summer when I was up in Washington and  Montana all summer and saying I like this place or that. One friend would say. I see re location in store ? Actually, I Love Truckee, California. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the world with Lake Tahoe, mountains, lakes, rivers.  And of course great people !! It is not a matter of wanting to move. It is a matter of loving to travel and see new places ! Truckee will most likely always be my home base and always be the place I come back to and spend a lot of time at. Of course my friends in Truckee make it home as well !

I moved to Truckee in 1975 with my friend Sandy (seen in this photo holding the little dog). I came from L.A and she from San Diego. We met while working at Sequoia National park. Thus the wandering started. I always knew I wanted to get out of L.A. Doesn’t seem at all like home to me especially now since I left there 42 years ago. So , after a few summers in Sequoia  Sandy and I ended up in Truckee, Ca.

In 1989 I moved to Santa Cruz , Ca. Lovely beach town. Lived there for 6 years . I did enjoy it. Whats not to enjoy. The beach, the weather, the music. However, I got restless and then moved into an RV for 2 years and wandered the country as a traveling vendor. Fun times for sure !!! Would have kept doing that longer had I not been struck down by Cancer. yes, the big C . Had to stop my wandering ways for awhile and take care of myself. I then ended up back in Truckee. I think for me it was because I had friends there  who I had known for quite some time. Once back in Truckee, I got settled in, started a cleaning business, acquired pets, had another round of cancer  and yada yada. I have always wanted to wander but its hard to do at some times in our lives. So, a little over a year ago my pets all got old and died one by one. Here are photos of the last group of pets I had. I miss them so much !!!

However, I have decided to not get any pets at this time so as to fulfill the need to wander. Had thought about getting an RV and just taking off. But, then I started this house sitting thing and realized there is a true need for it. So, for now just getting around in my Subaru and house sitting. Still thinking about a small RV , class B or even a camper van.  I do like the house sitting but also want a bit of my own free time as well.

in any case I am feeling pretty happy with my current situation. it may not be for everyone to wander from house to house with no real base of your own but I am enjoying it ! And if I get a small RV then that will be my home. The Subaru is kind of small. But, I house sit so much, it seems to suffice for now.

Anyways, my New Year is a New Year in many ways!

Happy New Year to all of you and may you live the life you want and dream about.

Thanksgiving in Truckee, California

Truckee , California is my Hometown. I moved here in 1975 with my dear friend Sandy Radamacher.

Thanksgiving to me is spending time with those you love. I dont have to much family so I usually spend it at Sandys house. We have had many losses this year. Sandys husband Steve passed last Jan. So, it was not the same without him but Sandy still had her traditional Thanksgiving dinner and a nice time was had by all.

I have been traveling since June but was nice to be back in Truckee for the holidays.

Truckee , California will always be my home even though I wander.
